Let's talk about it. There may be spoilers ahead, so please be aware.

Let's get odd.

So let's set the scene up. In Chapter 12 of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Fight for Survival, Avalanche is fighting Shinra and trying to prevent them from dropping the Sector 7 plate and killing a bunch of people who live on the plate and below in the Sector 7 slums. Cloud starts making the climb towards the top to meet Barret and the others, but Tifa and Aerith stay behind to help take care of Wedge, but as Wedge starts to feel better, Tifa has a change of heart and decides that she needs to help the others, so she tells Aerith that she needs to "Get Marlene to safety, right?"

I remember there was a lot of speculation as to why or how Aerith knew who Marlene was, as they never really talked to each other about Marlene, but let's back up a bit. In Chapter 11, Haunted, Tifa sees a ghost child. She sees Marlene, or thinks she sees Marlene. It then cuts to a flashback of Tifa speaking to Marlene inside of Seventh Heaven. This is the most likely explanation as to why or how Aerith knows that Tifa needs her to get Marlene to safety.

Alright, back to Chapter 12. First off, I just want to say I really like how the developers created this scene. After Aerith walks into Seventh Heaven, she starts by saying She knows Marlene is scared, sitting underneath the sink, crying. So Aerith makes sure to gently let Marlene know that she knows who she is. She immediately lets Marlene know that she's a friend of Tifa's, and she also mentions Cloud and Barret. Aerith tells her that Tifa told her to take care of Marlene. She tells Marlene that Seventh Heaven is not safe now, so she is going to take her somewhere safer, and she extends her hand.

Aerith probably doesn't have the heart to tell her that, yes, most likely, the bar and her home are going to be destroyed, so she extends both her arms, and Marlene slowly and still reluctantly moves in closer to hug Aerith. Aerith continues to try to reinsure Marlene, but Marlene starts crying, and that's when Marlene fully embraces Aerith.

So I looked over the scene a few times. It doesn't appear that Aerith actively or intentionally does anything, and she doesn't say anything either. There's just this kind of static effect that occurs. It kind of startles Marlene, and she steps back slowly, but Aerith also exerts a sound. which leads me to believe that what happened was unintentional, but because Aerith puts her finger to her lips, she knows fully what happened. She tells Marlene not to tell anyone what she felt or saw, and Marlene agrees, but what could it be?

Marlene is visibly and audibly calmer after this moment, and her tears are gone. Whatever she witnessed, it fully reinsured her that everything was going to be alright, and that she could put her trust into Aerith. So let's think about this.

We know that Aerith has an effect on people, especially when she touches them. Back in Chapter 2, Fateful Encounters, Cloud is walking around Sector 8 and runs into a visibly distressed Aerith, but Cloud cannot see what's bothering her. When she grabs Cloud's arm and asks him to help her, the camera closes into Cloud's eyes as he can now see the whispers before him. When the group meets Red XIII in Chapter 16, The Belly of the Beast, he is very violent, almost feral, but Aerith ensures everyone that this child is a friend. She puts her hand on his head and he immediately becomes calm and begins speaking to the group. In the next chapter, Chapter 17, Deliverance from Chaos, Red XIII explains that the dementors I mean flying hooded ghost figures are whispers or arbiters of fate, and they show up to ensure that no one will be able to alter destiny's course, and he found this knowledge of the whispers when Aerith reached out to him.

So back to Marlene. She could have seen something. She could have seen nothing. Whatever she saw or didn't see, it surprised her, caused her to step back a bit, but it did have a calming effect on her. Maybe she saw a vision of the future, and Aerith somehow ensured her that everything was going to be okay. I've come across a few theories saying that Marlene could be an Ancient as well.

Maybe that's the reason they had some sort of mutual understanding and connection, and it's possible that Aerith was just letting her know to keep this a secret. We don't really know much about Marlene's birth mother, except that her name was Eleanor and she was married to Dyne, and she died when Shinra destroyed Barret's hometown, Corel. I mean, it's possible that Marlene could be an Ancient. She does seem to have an ability to sense certain things.

Here's what I don't think Aerith showed to Marlene. I don't think Marlene saw a bunch of whispers, because I think seeing a bunch of flying hooded ghost figures would scare a child. I don't necessarily think Marlene saw the future, because I'm not sure a child would understand what all of that meant. It might be a combination of a few things. Maybe Marlene did see some form of glimpse into the future, but not only that, but because both she and Aerith have some sort of connection, Aerith was able to provide some form of calming power over Marlene, even if it was unintentional. Aerith has powers of the Cetra inside her, which is a mysterious power. Without any words, Aerith was able to convey to Marlene somehow that everything was going to be okay, and that she was someone that Marlene could trust. Or it's possible Marlene somehow saw into Aerith's heart, and she knew that Aerith was going to, perhaps one day sacrifice herself to save the planet. I mean, who knows? Well, I guess the developers know. Nomura definitely knows. I'd love to know your thoughts. What do you think Aerith showed to Marlene when they embraced? Let me know down in the comments.

Real quick, KupoCon is holding a Final Fantasy VII Remake Anniversary Event on April 10th, 2021, and some notable guests include Brit Baron, voice of Tifa, Briana White, voice of Aerith, Austin Lee Matthews, voice of Roche. As of this recording, they recently announced Erica Lindbeck, voice of Jessie, and Danielle McCrae, voice of Gwen, and I believe they still have more guests to announce, so definitely check them out. Show them some love. Also on April 10th and 11th, special edition prints of The Nibelheim Incident, written by M. J. Gallagher, will be available over on the KupoCon shop. For those of you who don't know, I referenced M. J.'s book, Norse Myths that Inspired Final Fantasy VII, heavily for my video, titled, The Origins of Midgar. I had a lot of fun reading up on that book and putting that video together, so be sure to go out and show some love and support creators in the Final Fantasy community. There will be spoilers ahead, so please be aware.

Let's get odd.

In the original Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth does not appear in the Midgar portion of the game. He does not make an appearance until the group leaves Midgar, they travel to Kalm, and they gather at the town inn. Barret asks Cloud to tell his story about Sephiroth and the crisis of the planet. Cloud then begins to tell his story and how he joined soldier because he wanted to be like Sephiroth, and after working together on several missions, the two of them became friends. They do make a point that Tifa is noticeably quiet as he tells his story, or his version of the story, rather. As Cloud goes on to tell his story, it triggers the Nibelheim flashback, and this, as far as I remember, is the first on-screen appearance of Sephiroth in the original Final Fantasy VII, and when I say, quote, unquote, "Sephiroth," I mean the physical appearance that looks like Sephiroth, regardless of whether that is actually Sephiroth, or Jenova's body.

But in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Sephiroth appears earlier in the Midgar portion of the game. In fact, he appears very early in the game, in Chapter 2, Fateful Encounters. After the Mako Reactor 1 bombing, Avalanche, along with Cloud, make their way to Sector 8. The group separates and they plan to meet back up on the train, but on the way there, Cloud experiences a hallucination in response to seeing buildings and windows on fire. It reminds him of when Sephiroth destroyed his hometown of Nibelheim and eventually sets the town on fire. The scene in Remake has similar elements to the Nibelheim flashback in the original Final Fantasy VII, but they are distinctly different. In the original game, Cloud is surrounded by his friends--protected, safe, in a sense of calm, if you will, but in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cloud is by himself. He escapes the turmoil of the Mako Reactor 1 bombing, he's walking by himself and he sees a vision of the man who haunts his past. Cloud is vulnerable, and out in the open, surrounded by no one. Before he knows it, Cloud finds himself back in Nibelheim, with the town on fire as he struggles to slowly chase after Sephiroth. When Cloud finally catches up to him, he tells Sephiroth that you're not real and that he killed him, and Sephiroth responds smugly by saying it was the crowning moment of our time together. Sephiroth tells Cloud to run away you have to leave you have to live When Cloud attempts to strike Sephiroth, Sephiroth disappears and tells Cloud to hold on to his hatred. Cloud then shakes it off and tells himself that he's seeing things, perhaps due to the mako fumes.

When Cloud first encounters Aerith, Sephiroth appears again, creepily putting his hand on Aerith's shoulder, then tells Cloud that he's too weak to save anyone, including himself. Ironically, in a sense, Aerith saves him in that moment, allowing him to snap out of his headache. Compared to the original game, Sephiroth appears quite frequently in Remake Part 1. He next appears in Chapter 3, Home Sweet Slum, when Cloud investigates the noises next to his apartment. He believes he sees Sephiroth, but it is actually a man named Marco, a Sephiroth clone. Before Cloud is able to harm Marco, Tifa intervenes and Cloud snaps out of his hallucination. In Chapter 8, Budding Bodyguard, after cloud falls down onto the Sector 5 church, Sephiroth appears in Cloud's dream, Sephiroth tells him there's still so much to be done, but then Aerith is able to wake him up. Later in Chapter 8, when Aerith runs to help another Sephiroth clone who collapses, the man grasps Cloud's arm, which causes him to have a headache, Sephiroth then appears and tells cloud that the reunion is nothing to fear. Later in Chapter 13, A Broken World, Sephiroth appears to Cloud again. After the Sector 7 plate drop, Cloud hears him say then my days flows the blood of ancients. This planet is my birthright. Sephiroth acknowledges to Cloud that he has failed again, but through suffering, he will grow strong. Then, he asks Cloud, isn't that what you want?

In Chapter 16, The Belly of the Beast, Sephiroth warps the Shinra VR presentation that they are seeing into a dark illusion, where Sephiroth clones attack Tifa and Barret, and a giant meteor falls onto Midgar. Suffice to say, Sephiroth makes many appearances in Remake part 1, in the Midgar portion of the game, especially when compared to the original Final Fantasy VII. I think my initial reaction was that I thought it was a weird choice, simply for the fact that it was different. Change can be weird. Who likes change? There's a lot of fans who love Remake, but there's also a lot of people who don't like Remake, simply for the fact that it isn't a one for one remake of the original. I'm not in that camp at all. I actually love Remake Part 1 very much, but when I first saw Sephiroth in Chapter 2 of the game, admittedly, there was a part of me that kind of went: 'hmm, that's interesting, Sephiroth appears really early here.' It's almost like comparing a book to a movie adaptation, where sometimes you think, 'Hey, wait a minute, that didn't happen in the book,' or vice versa.

I feel that in regards to this first portion of the game, there's more mystery to Sephiroth in his absence in the original, because there's very little mention of him and no appearance either. Midgar in the OG FF7 feels almost like an introduction to the game, or a prologue, before Sephiroth finally appears in the Nibelheim flashback. The less you see of a character, the more mysterious they become, and by making many appearances in Remake Part 1, it kind of takes the mystery out of it a little bit. I understand that for this first installment, the developers needed to have a big bad in the game. Sephiroth is definitely a huge selling point, and to end the game with a Sephiroth fight makes sense from that standpoint.

The entity that appears before Cloud in Chapter 2 of Remake Part 1 is already aware that Cloud is the one who killed him. While there's a lot of speculations whether these new installments are part of a remake or a sequel, there's almost like a Back to the Future feel to the whole game. There are hints that Sephiroth might be back to remake the timeline, or Aerith has returned to right the wrongs of the past. I like the Nibelheim flashback, because it gives a concise explanation of what Cloud perceives to have happened to Sephiroth, how and why he went mad, and how he killed Cloud's mother and other townspeople, and then destroyed Nibelheim. We also get to see short glimpses of what Sephiroth was like before he went mad, how he was as a soldier, perhaps a friend to Cloud, rather than a monster or a legend. Whether we, as fans, will get to experience something similar to the Nibelheim flashback in the next installment of the Remake, is anyone's guess. Maybe we will get to play as Sephiroth, or maybe there will be a separate short film containing the Nibelheim flashback. Are you interested in seeing the Nibelheim flashback in the next part of the remake? Or do you think they should just skip it?

The more that I make these videos, the more that I feel we should treat the original Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake as separate entities. Don't get me wrong: I really enjoy making these videos, comparing and contrasting the two games, and exploring different aspects in each of the games. I don't think we should stop doing that, but clearly they both are two completely different experiences, with 23 years and a whole lot of technology in between them. So I hope that players will be able to have an open mind while playing Remake, and simply because Remake is new or different from the original game that they love, it doesn't necessarily mean that that's a bad thing.

So here's my question for you: How do you feel about the changes that they made to the character of Sephiroth in Remake Part 1, compared to the original? Do you like how he makes a lot of appearances in Midgar? Or do you prefer the original, where he doesn't appear until Kalm? Definitely let me know down in the comments. Thanks for watching; I hope you enjoyed this video, and subscribe if you liked this video and you want to see more Final Fantasy VII Remake content.

Stay odd, and keep on playing.

<div id="844645961930583993" align="center" style="width: 100%; Square Enix will be hosting a new digital direct event titled 'Square Enix Presents' for Spring 2021. It will be held on March 18th at 10am Pacific Daylight Time. They will debut the world premiere of the next Life is Strange with a 40-minute lineup of new trailers and announcements from many of their upcoming titles, also featuring Outriders, Marvel's Avengers, Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary, new Square Enix Montreal games, Just Cause mobile, Balan Wonderworld, new mobile game announcements, and a Taito showcase. To be honest, I'm not all that interested in any of those games listed, but I'll check out the event if I am able, because I'm, of course, a huge fan of Square Enix, and we should support these other games and franchises.

Also, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan announced that there will be an upcoming livestream focusing on Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Resident Evil Village. The presentation will be an hour long, and it will occur at 3am, Pacific Daylight Time. It will include appearances by Producer, Yoshinori Kitase, and MC's, Hatsune Matsushima and Takuya Nakamura.

There might be spoilers ahead, so please be aware.

Alright, so in the original Final Fantasy VII, Tifa speaks to Cloud at 7th heaven. She tells him that the planet is slowly dying, and she pleads with him to join their cause. Cloud goes to leave, and it's here where Tifa reminds him of his promise to her. Seven years ago, Cloud sat by the well in Nibelheim, waiting for Tifa to come so he could speak with her. Cloud then lets Tifa know that he will be leaving town for Midgar in the spring, not just to find a job, but to join SOLDIER and to become the best SOLDIER, just like his hero, Sephiroth. He lets her know that he will probably be gone for a while, so Tifa proposes a promise. If Cloud becomes really famous, and Tifa's ever in a bind, her hero will come to save her. She tells him that she wants to experience this at least once. So Cloud's a little confused by this, but he eventually agrees to the promise. What's interesting is that when they return to the present, Cloud tells Tifa: 'I'm not a hero and I'm not famous, so I can't keep our promise. Tifa keeps pleading with Cloud, saying that he got his childhood dream of joining SOLDIER, so he has to keep his promise, but Cloud is still reluctant. This is when Barret climbs up from the basement and pays cloud for the job that he performed. Cloud scoffs at the low pay, and says that he'll join the next mission for 3,000 gil. So in kind of an indirect way, he is trying to keep his promise to Tifa, as long as the price is right.

In Final Fantasy VII Remake, after the group returns to 7th heaven after the opening bombing mission, the scenes are similar, but significantly different. First of all, we're not able to take the pinball machine down to the basement, which is really unfortunate. Barret and the others do, but Cloud is not able to. But the flashback does not occur during this scene. Tifa does not plead with Cloud to join their cause, and she never reminds him of his promise to her from seven years ago. The flashback with Cloud's promise to Tifa does occur, but it occurs at a drastically different time than in the original. It's kind of random, actually. It occurs during Chapter 4, Mad Dash, which is a completely new and added on chapter that adds some backstory to the characters of Avalanche, especially Jessie. So Cloud joins Jessie, as well as Biggs and Wedge, as they travel up towards the Sector 7 plate to help Jessie investigate the properties behind the explosion of the Mako Reactor 1 bombing.

As Biggs and Wedge proceed to go over the plan and tells cloud to make preparations, Cloud gets distracted and looks up towards the sky. He sees some sort of air vent with spinning fan blades, and this triggers the flashback where he remembers his promise to Tifa. The flashback in the Remake plays pretty close to the flashback in the original, but it's just the timing and the placement of the flashback that's drastically different. Not only that, but in the Remake, after snapping out of the flashback, he actually closes his eyes as if he's trying to remember something. It then flashes back to a more recent memory, where Cloud talks to Tifa about having second thoughts about the bombing missions. She wants to accomplish big things, but she doesn't necessarily agree with how they are going about it, and she feels trapped, probably between wanting to save the planet, but potentially causing a lot of harm in trying to do so.

Cloud then snaps out of this flashback, and then clenches his fist, before returning to the present. Jessie then fires her signal, and the mission continues. I'd love to know your thoughts on why you think they changed the placement of the scene, but here's my theory. I've got to warn you: it's kind of schmaltzy. This video was actually inspired by a facebook post, where someone was kind of bothered with the placement. They were saying that the placement in the original made sense, but the placement in Remake felt very random. I do think it's kind of random, but I just want to go on record as saying that I have no problem with the placement of the flashback in the Remake. So in the original, Tifa makes it a point to remind Cloud of the memory, and of the promise he made to her seven years ago, but in the Remake, this never happens. He's actually reminded of the memory by looking up and an air vent reminds him of the promise. My thoughts are that the developers are simply showing that Tifa is always on Cloud's mind. He doesn't need Tifa to remind him of anything. He's just always thinking about her.

And at the beginning of both games, Cloud is this cold, stiff character. He doesn't care about anyone or anything. He doesn't care about Barret or Avalanche or even the planet. He just wants to do the job and get paid a lot of money for it. When Cloud clenches his fist--it's a small thing, but to me, I feel like it represents that Tifa is giving him strength. Not only that, but it feels like by remembering Tifa, he remembers how much he cares about her, and he wants to support her, and he also feels for her when she says that she feels trapped, and he would do anything to alleviate that feeling from her.

I feel like this theory is further solidified later in Chapter 8. Cloud accompanies Aerith to go and find the missing kids, and on the way back, just these kids walking trigger a short flashback of Tifa as a child. Note that he also has a headache during this scene, so that might also have to do with his struggles of facing his traumatic past, but it also just made me think that Tifa is simply always on his mind, that no one has to remind him of Tifa. He's always thinking about her, and anything can remind him of her, whether it's an air vent or children walking.

Tifa is embedded in Cloud's past, and they have a lot of memories together, regardless of if those memories are good or traumatic. These scenes and flashbacks might be small and subtle foreshadowing, and they're all building up to the part of the story where Tifa eventually becomes an integral part of helping Cloud piece his mind back together. So here's my question for you: What is this guy doing? But also: Why do you think they changed the placement of that promise flashback sequence? Let me know down in the comments. The circumstances are also different. Tifa doesn't remind him of the promise in FF7 Remake. In fact, she isn't even there. The flashback occurs during Chapter 4, Mad Dash, when Cloud 'randomly' looks up to the sky, and the spinning fan blades trigger the flashback. Many Final Fantasy fans feel the same way. I recently saw some unfortunate headlines in the news saying that his career of making full-fledged soundtracks might be over.

Let's get odd.

I only recently learned that Nobuo Uematsu has been having health problems, but apparently, he has been having them for quite some time. I found his old blog post from September 20th 2018, where he wrote: "To my dearest fans: Since the establishment of Dog Ear Records, I have found myself blessed with countless opportunities. From composing new works to holding concerts around the world, my days have been hectic, yet fulfilling. The resulting fatigue, however, has finally caught up with me, and I find it mentally and physically difficult to go on at my current pace. After giving serious consideration to all options, I have decided to take an extended leave of absence and give my mind and body the time they need to properly mend. If I am to return, I want to do so in full health. Do not worry. Once I've made a full recovery, I'll be back doing what I do best. My current plan is to rest for the remainder of the year, and while I cannot commit to a method or time frame for my return, I'm very hopeful."

So he took a leave of absence starting in September 2018 until the end of that year, but he was back to work in January of 2019. I then found an article entitled: 'Top Composer, Beloved Worldwide - Nobuo Uematsu,' from August 15, 2019, on onemillionpower.com. The interviewer asks, regarding his health problems from 2018: "Did you end up getting hospitalized?" And Uematsu-san replies: "Apparently, I was close to dying! I wasn't totally bedridden, but was completely worn out and transferred to different hospitals. I thought that at least my body was still in good shape, but with this, I completely lost confidence in that. It impacted everything down to my mood." The interviewer says: "It sounds like both your mind and body were fatigued." And Uematsu-san replies: "I like putting my all into everything that I do, so I'm going to keep giving it my best no matter what. That's just a habit of mine, and I can't change it now. I take on a bunch of work and put as much as I can into all of it, and that's why I'm exhausted, but I can't do anything about my age, and I realized for the first time I'll have to start considering these things more carefully."

I won't read the whole interview, but Uematsu-san goes on to say that when he was younger, he wasn't able to make a living off of music, so he constantly works, and he keeps accepting work, in fear that he might run out of work, or run out of money. He feels that from age 30 until the present day of age 60, time has passed so quickly. He joined Square in 1985, and after the successful release of the first Final Fantasy in 1987, he has been busy ever since. He feels like adults really are just aged children, and he's still excited at age 60 about figuring out what he's going to do with himself.

He also recently got certified as a sound healing therapist. Sound healing therapy helps relieve ailments through vibrating different types of large tuning forks. He had actually dreamed of one day becoming a sound therapist, feeling that there was something about music that could heal people's hearts. Uematsu-san goes on in the interview to talk about being a self-taught musician and composer, but I especially like the end of the interview, where the interviewer says: "You're just a person who can never stop. I hope you can keep pushing forward like this forever!" And Uematsu-san replies: "I won't be settling down."

So that interview was from 2019. Fast forward to 2021. I found an article on mobilesyrup.com, which was talking about how Hironobu Sakaguchi, who created Final Fantasy, and is now head of Mistwalker, is currently working on a classic RPG, entitled Fantasian, for Apple Arcade. To add to the game's classic JRPG feel, Sakaguchi-chan enlisted long-time friend and collaborator, Nobuo Uematsu, but the collaboration almost didn't happen with Fantasian. Here's a quote from Sakaguchi-chan: "Before we approached him to work on Fantasian, he was going through some health issues, and there were concerns if he was going to be able to compose everything, or if it was even possible for him to work on this." But ultimately, Uematsu-san pulled through to compose the game's entire 60-piece orchestrated soundtrack. It's an especially important collaboration for them, says Sakaguchi-chan, as the work required to compose and orchestrate entire soundtracks might prove too difficult for Uematsu-san going forward. "I think he kind of hinted that Fantasian is maybe the last game that he does from end to end, in terms of scoring an entire soundtrack," recalls Sakuguchi-chan. While he notes that Uematsu-san will likely continue to do individual composition for games, Fantasian might be his last record. If Fantasian is to be their last full collaboration though, Sakaguchi-chan says he's more than happy with the end result. On a positive note, he poured his heart and soul into it. "For me, when I heard it, it almost made me tear up a little bit, because it was a very big moment in both of our careers.

So because of Uematsu-san's health issues, it's possible that Fantasian might be the last full soundtrack that he will be able to create. But he contributed one new track, Hollow, on Final Fantasy VII Remake, and we might see him pop up from time to time on more projects like that, where he writes individual tracks, as opposed to contributing full soundtracks. Honestly, it's kind of disheartening to read these headlines and to learn that he's been having health problems, and that he's likely to, at the very least, slow down his music composing projects, but at the same time, he's literally a living legacy. I mean think of his entire discography and all of his wonderful contributions, to the Final Fantasy World, to the video game music world, and to the world of music in general. I don't think we need to be alarmed; I don't know for sure, but I really hope that we don't need to be, but I just think that in light of this recent news, we should try to show him our appreciation for his music while we still can, in any ways that we can.

If you're familiar with this channel, you know that I'm a huge fan of his, and I hope that many people who come across my videos see this channel as a celebration of not only Final Fantasy, but of Nobuo Uematsu and his music. Many years ago, I went to see a Final Fantasy concert, and I paid extra to get a signed CD and a short meet and greet with Nobuo Uematsu, Susan Calloway, and Arnie Roth. What can I say? He's the best. They say that you should never meet your heroes, but I meant mine, and he was as legendary as I always thought him to be.

So here's my question for you: What is your favorite piece of music that was composed by Nobuo Uematsu? I'd love to know your responses; definitely let me know down in the comments. There's a ridiculous amount of tracks to choose from. I immediately think of Final Fantasy VII. Cosmo canyon comes to mind, but also Opening Bombing Mission, and of course, Tifa's theme, and there are many, many more, but those come to the top of my head at this very moment. Thanks for watching; I hope you enjoyed this video, and subscribe if you liked this video and you want to see more content like this.

Stay odd, and keep on playing.

<div id="197931521198542538" align="center" style="width: 100%; It will include a brand new episode featuring Yuffie, an optional but awesome character from the original Final Fantasy VII game. She will be fighting alongside a new character named Sonon Kusakabe, but who is Sonon Kusakabe? Where does he come from? How or where did he learn to fight?

We don't know a lot about this new character. Actually, we just know his name, and whatever cryptic things we can pick up from the two-minute announcement trailer. We can see that he can fight and he wields a staff for a weapon, but from the Final Fantasy VII twitter account, we learned that Sonon trained under Yuffie's father and harbors a deep resentment for Shinra, following the devastation caused by the war between Shinra and Wutai. He has been assigned to work with Yuffie as she infiltrates Midgar, essentially making her his boss. I actually found this really interesting, because after watching the trailer, I had assumed that he was a member of Avalanche, and that Yuffie came to Midgar to meet with him, but after seeing this post, it turns out that Sonon has more ties to Wutai and Yuffie rather than Avalanche. For all we know, this scene could be his first time meeting this specific branch of Avalanche, since he introduces himself with his full name. "Anyway it's nice to meet you. I'm Sonon Kusakabe." But it's not entirely clear.

There's also more information that I found from the website, Game Watch. Yuffie and Sonon are hunting for the ultimate materia developed by the Shinra company. They meet up with Avalanche, seeking revenge against Shinra. Sonon is a warrior from Wutai who studied Kenpo and Bojutsu under Godo Kisaragi, Yuffie's father. I looked up Bojutsu, and it translates to 'staff technique,' and it's the martial art of stick fighting ,using a bo, which is the Japanese word for staff. Sonon participated in the war at a young age and developed a hatred for Shinra. Players will be able to control Yuffie in battle, but we will not be able to control Sonon. He will be a guest party member, but it appears that we will be able to perform cooperative attacks with him in battle. So this clears up a few things for me. When Sonon says:

"They deserve what's coming to them."

I initially thought he might be referring to Barret's Avalanche, as Shinra publicly blamed them for the mako reactor bombings, but upon learning that he has a resentment and hatred towards Shinra, it's more likely that he's referring to them. And this quote is still kind of intriguing:

"Yeah they, do... but I'm not your sister."

We now know that Yuffie's father, Godo Kisaragi, trained Sonon, so it would make sense that Godo and Sonon grew close, and perhaps Sonon and Yuffie are also close. Although Yuffie is younger than Sonon, she becomes his boss figure when they arrive in Midgar, and it would make for interesting friction between them. Also, I would imagine that he feels some sort of responsibility over Yuffie, and he wants to protect her as if she was his younger sister, and at the same time, she feels like she needs to protect him as she is his boss. But the line, 'I'm not your sister,' is still kind of cryptic, even though we have a little more insight into his character and the relationship between the two of them.

I mentioned this in a previous video, but I feel like because Sonon is a brand new character, they could easily write him out as easily as they wrote him in. So that short scene they showed in the trailer could be a foreshadowing that Sonon ends up sacrificing himself in order to protect Yuffie, but I guess we'll just have to wait until June 10th to see.

So here's my question for you: What do you think of Sonon Kusakabe? Is he a cool character or no? Is he a welcome addition into the Final Fantasy VII Remake family? Let me know down in the comments. Even with this new information, I still think we don't know that much about him yet, and Square Enix has a way of getting you attached to characters even in a short amount of time. So I look forward to seeing how his story plays out in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Thanks for watching, and subscribe if you liked this video and you want to see more Final Fantasy VII Remake content.

Stay odd, and keep on playing.

<div id="895246270396178782" align="center" style="width: 100%; Well, according to the German PlayStation store, it says: "Erlebe zwei von der Hauptstory separate Kapitel und einen neunen aufregenden kampf im Kampfsimulator!" Now, I had no idea what that means, but when translated into English, it means: "Experience two separate chapters from the main story and a new exciting battle in the battle simulator!" So it looks like there will be a new battle added in the simulator against Weiss. As of the recording of this video, the mention of it being two chapters long is nowhere to be found on the North American page of the store, but I did see that it was confirmed on the Final Fantasy VII twitter account. Now we have some sort of clue as to how long Yuffie's DLC episode will be.

So let's recap: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will include technical enhancements, better graphics, faster load times compared to the PS4 version, and other improvements. I'm, of course, most excited for the Yuffie episode. The standard edition of the game will include Final Fantasy VII Remake, the new episode featuring Yuffie, and the Cacstar item, and it will cost $69.99 USD in the North American PlayStation store. The digital deluxe edition will include Final Fantasy VII Remake, the new Yuffie episode, a digital art book, a digital mini soundtrack, and a Cacstar item, and will cost $89.99 USD in the North American store. You are eligible to receive a free PS5 digital version of Final Fantasy VII Remake if you already either own a PS4 digital version of the game, or own a PS4 disc version of the game and also own a PS5 console with a disc drive. You will have to insert the disc each time you wish to download or play the PS5 digital version of the game. If you got Final Fantasy VII Remake via the PlayStation Plus service, you are not eligible for the free upgrade to the PS5 version, but you can purchase Intergrade separately.

As of the recording of this video, Intergrade is not and will not be available on the PlayStation 4. So we know that the Yuffie DLC episode will be two chapters long, but still that doesn't really indicate how long it will actually take to complete. My guess would be around two to three hours, possibly four, but regardless, I'm excited for it. I've also made a trailer analysis video and a predictions video regarding the Yuffie episode, so make sure to check those out if you haven't yet.

Here's a question: Are you into physical media or do you purchase everything digitally? Let me know down in the comments. I'm more of a physical media guy, although I can definitely see the benefits and advantages of purchasing games digitally. As of this recording, the standard edition is available for pre-order online, but I have not seen any listings yet for the deluxe edition, but the deluxe edition is available for pre-order digitally. Thanks for watching, and subscribe if you liked this video and you want to see more Final Fantasy VII Remake content.

Stay odd, and keep on playing.

<div id="176429964291816748" align="center" style="width: 100%; Beware of spoilers.

Let's get odd.

I made a previous video with some analysis of the trailer, so please be sure to check that out if you haven't yet. First thing I'm wondering is how Yuffie's episode will start. In the trailer that they showed us, it opens with her looking through the scope, but I'm not sure that's how the episode will open. I think there could be a short scene of Yuffie in Wutai, and a representative of the New Wutai Government explaining her special assignment to her. It might even be her father, Godo. The scene doesn't have to be long, but it could offer some sort of clarity as to why she is traveling to Midgar, and Wutai could be teased in the same way that Nibelheim was kind of teased in Remake Part 1.

I kept replaying this scene where Yuffie arrives in Midgar and falls off this ledge, thinking I could pinpoint where she was. Particularly this shot, where it's a slums area with train tracks. I looked through the Sector 5 Slums and the Sector 7 Slums , but I didn't find anywhere that looked similar. I thought it might be the Abandoned Factory area. It's possible it's just kind of an indescript area, but I'm assuming she was sent to meet Sonon in Sector 7. I thought it was funny when Cloud reads this sign and says:

"Danger: falling debris. Keep out. Not going that way."

I thought that might be, like, some sort of funny clue or foreshadowing as to where Yuffie falls, but behind that fence is where Johnny gets taken away by Shinra soldiers, and it didn't look like the same place that Yuffie falls. It might be safe to assume that she arrives in Sector 7, but it also might be funny if we see her parachuting out of a helicopter into Midgar, and maybe even getting a little air sick in the process.

The trailer then immediately cuts to Yuffie meeting with this branch of Avalanche. I was thinking about how she would come into contact with Avalanche, so I thought of two characters. My initial thought was this scene, where Tifa says:

"Remember: she's a good friend of Avalanche, so be nice. Please."

So maybe Yuffie meets with Marle somehow, and Marle introduces her to Avalanche, but I also thought of this sequence, where Tifa says:

Tifa: "We've gotta save him, Cloud!"
Cloud: "Is he Avalanche?"
Tifa: "No. He doesn't really know what we do... but he has his suspicions. And... he's a talker."

So maybe Yuffie somehow overhears either Johnny or someone who Johnny spoke to about Avalanche, and upon further investigation, Yuffie comes into contact with this other group of Avalanche, and she tells them that she's looking for someone named:

"Sonon Kusakabe."

When this Avalanche member says:

"They're the ones who blew up the reactors."

It makes me think that she's part of a different branch of Avalanche, because somehow she knows that Barrett's group is responsible for the reactor bombing, but she's separate from that group. Still, it also makes me think of Nellie and Finn, and if they are part of this other Avalanche group or not.

In the official announcement for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, it says: "In this new adventure, play as ninja, Yuffie Kisaragi, as she infiltrates the shadowy Shinra corporation to steal a powerful materia and restore glory to her homeland." I wouldn't be surprised if she actually hides her true agenda from Avalanche, and kind of uses them to meet her own ends. In the original Final Fantasy VII, Yuffie is this mysterious ninja character, who is very deceptive. She straight up lies to the group and she steals all of their materia. Especially in this scene, where Yuffie is waving around the materia and it changes colors, it makes me wonder if they will carry on her theme of deception into this episode.

I think that when Sonon says:

"They deserve what's coming to them."

--that he's referring to Barrett's Avalanche group, as Shinra publicly blames them for the Sector 7 plate drop, and that could lead to some interesting friction where Yuffie could eventually meet Cloud's group and view them as enemies.

Also, spoiler alert if you haven't seen the movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The fate of Sonon kind of reminds me of the fate of the characters in Rogue One, where the filmmakers kind of go back and they create this story. They kind of have free reign to create these characters, and they end up dying at the end; they kill them off, and the only reason why I think that is because we've never heard of Sonon before, and he doesn't appear in the original Final Fantasy VII. So I kind of feel like it would be easy to write him in, and it would kind of be easy to write him out as well.

My biggest question about Yuffie's episode is: Do you think that Yuffie will join Cloud's party at the end? And I personally don't think so. I think that the Yuffie Episode will act as an awesome introduction of her character. We'll get to play as her and see new game play and story, but I don't think she will join the main party just yet. We will actually get to play as Yuffie before we get to play as Red XIII, which is kind of unfair to us Nanaki fans. But as we were already introduced to Red XIII, I think Part 2 will start off with learning how to control Red XIII, and then Yuffie will join the party at a later time.

So do you think that Yuffie will join Cloud's party by the end of the episode? Let me know down in the comments. Thanks for watching and subscribe if you liked it and you want to see more content like this.

Stay odd and keep on playing.

<div id="629580021865111765" align="center" style="width: 100%; So let's take a closer look at the episode Yuffie trailer.

Let's get odd.

When the trailer gets to Yuffie, she's looking through a scope and starts off by saying: "Well guys, your girl finally made it to Midgar." So this is all new territory for us fans. In the original Final Fantasy VII, the character of Yuffie was optional, so this is all new and exciting. Yuffie introduces herself as: "My name is Yuffie, Materia Hunter and Elite Special Forces Operative for the New Wutai Government," so I am assuming that she was sent to Midgar on a special assignment from the New Wutai Government. As you can see here, she appears to be meeting with a branch of Avalanche. I would assume that this is a separate branch from Barrett's group, but it's also possible that they could be members of Barrett's group that we haven't seen before, or have only heard as mentioned by Barrett, and I'm assuming that the common enemy that she's referring to is Shinra. So then we meet a new character named: "Sonon Kusakabe."

There's also some new cutscene footage of Barret and Tifa talking to Biggs about getting separated from Cloud, so I think it might be safe to assume that Yuffie's episode takes place after the Air Buster battle, when Cloud falls into the Sector 5 Church. You can see the bar sign in this clip, and also the item shop sign, which means that they're in the Sector 7 Slums. I believe this guy is an Avalanche member, and I kind of matched up this poster board in the background to try and pinpoint where they are. The Shinra soldiers run after him, and then Yuffie and Sonon make chase. So what's interesting about this area is that there is an area in Final Fantasy VII Remake that is always gated off, and the game teases you because you know something is back there, but you can't reach it. And I would think that these new areas that they show in this trailer are back behind that gate. I'm not sure, but that's what I would think.

Yuffie is wielding her trademark shuriken, and Sonon has some sort of rod, and it looks like we might be able to perform cooperative attacks between these two characters, similar to what we saw in Final Fantasy XV. I guess some people had issues with the battle mechanics of Remake, but I really liked it, and the trailer shows off some cool battle mechanics. Sonon's weapon kind of reminds me of Cid's spear, especially in this scene. It reminds me a lot of that one awesome sequence from Advent Children.

So then this Avalanche member says: "You guys should probably get moving. Whatever it is they're planning, you're better off out of it. And I believe he's talking about the eventual Sector 7 Plate drop. So again, I'm not sure if he's part of Barrett's Avalanche. Maybe he used to be a part of Barrett's Avalanche, but some of the members broke off, or maybe there are rival Avalanche factions. So when Sonon says: "They deserve what's coming to them." I'm assuming he's talking about Shinra, but he could also be talking about Barrett's Avalanche in reaction to the Sector 7 plate drop. If he thinks that Avalanche is to blame for the plate drop, he could be angry at them. And then there's this line: "Yeah they do, but I'm not your sister." I'm not sure what to make of that. That's completely new. That just sounds kind of cryptic and mysterious to me. They're probably just introducing new backstories to Yuffie and Sonon.

So in this part it looks like perhaps Yuffie and Sonon are at the Shinra building, and they're infiltrating Deepground underneath Shinra headquarters. These appear to be Deepground soldiers, and the trailer ends with a cameo by Weiss. If I'm not mistaken, Deepground and Weiss never appeared and were never mentioned in the original Final Fantasy VII. They've only appeared in other games so it's very interesting to see how the developers are incorporating other games and characters in the compilation into this remake.

So what do you think? Do you agree or disagree with my analysis? Are you excited about this new addition coming out in June? Are you disappointed that it's a PS5 exclusive? Let me know down in the comments. I'm kind of disappointed because I currently don't own a PS5, but regardless, I was so excited to see that Yuffie will be coming to this new edition of Remake. Thanks for watching, and subscribe if you liked this video and you want to see more Final Fantasy VII Remake content.

Stay odd, and keep on playing.

<div id="887876742384554126" align="center" style="width: 100%;
